3RD TERM 2017/2018 SESSION END OF TERM NEWSLETTER
We wish to congratulate the parents of SS3 students CLASS OF 2018 (Brilliant Spartans) whose wards just graduated. We sincerely want to use this medium to appreciate our parents for your continuous support towards the school and our programmes this session.
Special appreciation to the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) under the dynamic leadership of Alh. Abdulsalam Shamsudeen for its role in ensuring that both parents; teachers and students are happy in school.
It was really an eventful term, with many activities focused at bringing out lifelong skills in our students. We dedicate all our success and achievement this term and session to you our esteemed parents and give gratitude to Almighty God for helping us thus far.
ACADEMICS AND CURRICULUM
Our commitment towards academic excellence is to ensure that every child is carried along and no child is left behind, to enable them compete globally.
MR. OSHOSANYA WRITING COMPETITION
The annual writing competition sponsored by a philanthropist (Mr. Oshosanya) took place this year and three students emerged winners. They received cash awards and plagues.
First position: Aisha Musa (45,000) and a plague
Second position: Princess Danjuma-Ekele (25,000) and a plague
Third position: Mowaninuola George (15,000) and a plague
This competition is aimed at improving essay writing skills among students in the school.
Apart from reading in the library or self motivated reading, students were exposed to various novels and poems.
These academic books and poems are aimed at strengthening the students’ vocabulary and broadening their mind about the world. The school library is equipped with new books and computer hence, students were eager to use the library.
In a bid to sustain standard, the staff had several in-house training and the focus were on:
i. Resource management
ii. Teaching methods
iii. Assessment in teaching and learning
iv. Effective use of textbooks in the classroom & techniques usage of textbooks and other print out materials.
v. Classroom management
vi. Team building
vii. Human resource management
viii. How the brain learns
ix. Monitoring and tracking teaching and learning
xi. Provision for high/low attaining pupils
Students were also exposed to different seminars and training this term. Some of the, are:
i. Seminar on personal hygiene
ii. Training on reading skills
iii. Training on target setting
iv. Seminar on positive self esteem
v. Leadership training at leadership and citizenship centre Karu-Abuja.
75% of our students scored 200 and above and we sincerely appreciate parents for supporting us on this examination.
WAEC AND NECO (SSCE)
The WAEC have released their result officially though the school is yet to access all the result, so far the school have being able to access a good number of the result and the performance is excellent. The NECO (SSCE) hopefully will be out by September, 2018.
The JSCE BECE examination was also written in May, 2018 and hopefully the result will be out by September, 2018.
The third term is a promotional term, we encourage parents to look at the result of their wards and study the comparative analysis of the three terms in each subject. The comparative analysis will serve as a guide on how your ward performed in the just concluded academic session.
JSS 3 NECO – BECE
i. The JSS3 students wrote their placement examination. This test helps us to place them in their various classes before the release of NECO – BECE result.
ii. The E.R.C. examination has not been written. The examination body is yet to release a time table for the examination.
The booklist for 2018/2018 session is enclosed in the students pack. Please, go through them, and get them in preparation for the new academic session.
i. We had a successful prefects badging programme this term. The school’s Head boy for 2018/2019 session is Master Daniel Onyibe while the Head girl is Miss Safiya Adio. Parents/guardian of the prefects graced the occasion.
ii. We appreciate and congratulate parents of CLASS OF 2018, the Brilliant Spartans, who graduated on 7th July, 2018.
LEADERSHIP AND CITIZENSHIP TRAINING ABUJA
Our JSS3 students were at leadership and citizenship training centre Karu-Abuja which is curricular based. The students were exposed to:
i. Team Work
ii. Ways to handle obstacles and conquer fear
iii. Public speaking skills
v. Self esteem building techniques/activities.
Other events are early morning exercise and home grooming cores. The students that attended were all certified.
The school will be having summer lesson from 30th July, 2018 – 24th August, 2018. The fee is affordable skills acquisition subjects and activities have been put in place to benefit the students.
We encourage parents of SS2 students to take advantage of the summer lesson slated to commence from 30th July, 2018. Where students will be guided on the use of CBT and exposed to several CBT softwares. This will serve as a preparatory session for the students to practice.
We would like to inform all our Muslim new parents that this programme is compulsory for all our Muslim students. The Islamiyya fee is N15,000.00 which is payable to the school account.
Parents of day school students are encouraged to subscribe to the school lunch. The amount is nor reviewed due to the present cost of food stuff in the market and the new cost is now the sum of N35,000.00 only.
A good number of our Muslim students especially the SS2 student moving to SS3 by September, 2018 are giving the school Imam serious problem regarding their attendance to the Islamiyya. The school will be calling for parent conference inviting the parents of the concerned students.
Students that have written our entrance examination have been placed already. We want to use this medium to appreciate our parents, who have our school as “family preferred school”, who have brought in their wards to join their other siblings in the school, we are grateful.
A window opportunity is still open to prospective parents this July. The next entrance examination will be on these dates at 10:00am.

Holiday assignment will be part of the items to check before students are allowed into the hostel. The day students will also be checked on resumption before accessing the school.
Parents should ensure that their wards do the assignments during the holiday.
v Students are expected to return with all their textbooks and notebooks. Defaulters will not be checked into the hostel.
v It is important that you take your ward(s) for routine medical check and possible treatment before resumption to the school.
v Assorted cloths other than the school approved house wear will not be allowed into the hostel.
v Students with medical history/health issue to facilitate the support of the hostel.
v Drugs prescribed by a doctor should be attached with a doctor’s prescription sheet for proper documentation and administration.
v Students are not allowed to use any form of electronic item (e.g. phone, Ipad, Ipod, tablets, laptop etc). if found such item(s) will be confiscated.
v APT items to be submitted at the point of checking in the boarders on resumption.
INFORMATION TO PARENTS
1. The JS3 students wrote their placement test after their pre-SS1 class lessons
2. Students were exposed to writing exercise every Thursday. They were given essays to write so as to build their writing skills. Feedbacks were given to the students after the essays.
3. The school will appreciate it if parents of day students check their wards bags before coming to the school with contra-bands.
4. Scholarship opportunities and advice for choice of universities is a service our school provides to her students. Please, see the psychologist for more details.
We want to use this medium to thank our esteemed parents for providing for our students. Please, note that we will appreciate it if full payment of school fee is made upon resumption in September. Payment plan will only be honoured if discussed with the principal at the beginning of the term.
