Junior Secondary School Education (JSS). View curriculum aims

The JSS is both pre-vocational and academic. Every student offers the following subjects:

Mathematics
English
Language of the environment
One major Nigeria Language (Hausa, Ibo or Yoruba)
Integrated Science
Social Studies
Creative Studies (Music and Art)
Practical Agriculture
Religious Studies
Physical Education
Two Prevocational Subjects

The Pre-vocational subjects from whom any two may be selected are:

Introductory Technology
Local Craft
Home Economics
Business Studies

Schools, which have the required facilities, may also teach any or both of the non-vocational electives, which are:

Arabic Studies
French.

Evaluation and Certification

JSS: Evaluation and certification are based on the continuous assessment method and an end-of-course examination conducted by the Ministry of Education and NECO leading to the Junior School Certificate (J.S.C).
