Welcome to Your New Junior Secondary School Curriculum

This page will help you understand what you are likely to be doing in your first three years. Do not worry if you find this information confusing as everything will be explained to you by your subject teachers. Always ask questions if you are not sure about what is happening.

From the beginning of JSS I to the end of JSS3 you will follow the National Curriculum of the Junior Secondary School with strong emphasis on Maths, English, Introductory Science, Introductory Technology, Social Studies, IRK, CRK, Music, Home Economics , Creative Art, Agriculture Science, PHI, ICT, PHE, French and Environmental Language.

You will be taught in mixed sex groups but some environment activities and college trips could be single sex. Classes are mixed ability or are grouped into what are called 'Sets' according to the ability you showed during the entrance examination to the school.

Depending on your progress you may be moved to a different group in order to ensure that you receive the teaching which is most appropriate for your particular learning needs.

A second foreign language is introduced to student from JSS I (French). Your progress will be assessed regularly in all subjects and reports will be sent to your parents. Your form tutor will keep a close overview of your academic and behaviour progress. You will have tests regularly, examinations every term in all your subjects. There will be promotional examination at the end of the third term. We will review the progress you have made and you will be promoted to the next class; otherwise you may have to repeat the class. You can only repeat a class once.

You are to read and develop yourself; support is available for students in learning areas where they may have problems. More able students are offered extensive work and enjoy other privileges in the school.

You will be given assignments on daily basis on your contact subject. It is to help you and to reference learning. It is a serious offence when assignments are not done at the appropriate time. We also encourage you to communicate with other students only in English except during French or other language class. Vernacular speaking is a very serious offence.

If you have a mother tongue we will encourage you to work towards extra language class. Many students who obey the rules find education so easy which makes some students achieve success.

In the junior secondary school, you will lay the foundation for your entire future course. You will be writing SSCE at the end of your year 3. SSCE is an external National examination, you may write the NECO and the Kaduna-state, Ministry of education. Students who work hard to make sure they do as well as they possibly can at Junior Secondary school, will almost go on to do same at the senior secondary and beyond. We know this is one of the main reasons you have chosen to come to Danbo International College. We will therefore, expect you to settle down into good working habit as quickly as possible.

We look forward to work and care for you.
