Admission

Admission Requirement

General

All candidates seeking admission into any of the courses at the IJMB or Cambridge A-levels must either be going through or have passed through Senior Secondary School Education. In addition, prospective students must write our “Diagnosis for Prognosis Test” (DPT).

Specific

(i)  Cambridge ‘A’-Level and University Foundation
Candidates seeking admission into the Cambridge Advanced Level Programme and the International University Foundation courses must in addition to fulfilling the general admission requirements pass at least five ‘O’-Level subjects which must include English Language and mathematics at credit grades in relevant subjects.

(ii) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
Candidates seeking admission into the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) must in addition to fulfilling the general admission requirements, pass or show evidence of good grades in English and mathematics. Such candidates are expected to have minimum of five credits in ‘O’-Level subjects if they have concluded their Senior Secondary School Education.

(iii) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), PTE and IELTS
Candidates seeking admission into the TOEFL programme must in addition to fulfilling the general admission requirements pass or show evidence of a good grade in English Language. Such candidates are expected to have minimum of five credits(including English Language) in ‘O’-Level subjects if they have concluded their Senior Secondary School Education.


(iv) Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and GMAT
Candidates seeking admission into the GRE and GMAT programmes must in addition to fulfilling the general admission requirements pass or show evidence of  good grades in English Language and/or Mathematics(as applicable) at the their “O”- Level subjects. They are expected to be graduates of renowned universities.

(v)  International General Certificate of Secondary Education(IGCSE)
Candidates seeking admission into the IGCSE programme must in addition to the general admission requirements show evidence of at least the successful completion of Junior Secondary School Education with good grades.

(vi)  Remedial Courses (SSSCE and NECO)
Candidates seeking admission into the SSSCE and NECO programmes must in addition to the general admission requirements show evidence of at least the successful completion of Senior Secondary School Education with or without good grades.

(vii) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
Candidates seeking admission into the UTME programme must in addition to the general admission requirements show evidence of at least the successful completion of Senior Secondary School Education with  good grades in at least five ‘O’-Level subjects which must include relevant subjects. 

Admission requirements into our special courses are determined by individual deficiencies, needs, and aspirations. In other words, when prospective students show their interest areas, we determine the level of educational backgrounds required for successful pursuits of such courses.

(Viii) INTERIM JOINT MATRICULATION BOARD (IJMB)
The Interim Joint Matriculation Board was set up in 1974 by Ahmadu Bello University in collaboration with University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Ever since, the university (ABU) has the mandate to run the programme.  The Board has adequately taken charge of the former   Higher School Certificate (HSC) Examination that was cancelled in 1989.  The IJMB programme like the ‘A’-Level programme is designed to prepare students for direct entry into any university of their choice. This is an alternative route to the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (JAMB) as a statutory order of seeking admission into Nigeria universities. In other words, students who follow this route need not sit for the UTME before gaining admission to the 200level in any university.
Presently, Ahmadu Bello University in collaboration with Danbo International Sixth-Form College prepare students for admission to 200level of any university of their choice. The duration of the programme is 12 months of 2 semesters. The programme prepares you for 3 combinable subjects leading to you career.

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates seeking admission on the IJMB programme are expected to have minimum of five ’O’-Level credits at not more than two sittings. The subjects passed must include their career subjects. However, candidates with deficiency in either Mathematics or English language can be admitted on the programme provided they prepare to remedy their deficiency in either of these two subjects. English Language and Mathematics 'O'- Level IJMB is available also for candidates who have defficieny in any of these subjects
