Welcome to Your Senior Secondary School: The Pathways for Your Future.

As a senior secondary school student, you have now reached the stage at which you must start to make decisions which will affect your future career.

The National Curriculum at senior secondary which all students follow provides a broad balance of subjects to study. Danbo International College places a strong emphasis on the WAEC/NECO requirement and instructions on the senior secondary education.

Student may chose from the following courses:
English, Literature in English, Environmental Language [Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo] Arabic, French,
Christian/Islam Religious Knowledge, History, Government, Economics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physical Education,

Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Health Science, Fine Art, Music, Food & Nutrition, Technical Drawing, Clothing and Textiles, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Wood Work, Building Construction, Commerce and Shorthand.

Student study preference will be based upon their interest, ability, achievements and ambition. Form tutors and subject specialist in discussion with students and parents will offer advice on choices best suited to the individual learner.

From Senior Secondary year, you will be developing individual learning skills in order to help you become an effective and flexible learner for life. All students have particular strengths and abilities; yours might be quite different from your friend. At Danbo International College we aim to ensure that each student achieves his personal best. Helping you to plan your Senior Secondary School program is part of helping you to succeed and achieve your utmost and honest potential always.

Your final examination will be administered by WAEC and NECO for the award of the Senior Secondary School Certificate [SSC] which will take place in the third year of your study.

Your progress will be assessed in all your chosen subject and reports will be sent to your parents. We will also review the progress you have made and be promoted to the next class otherwise you may be asked to repeat or you may not be entered for the SSC examination.
To be eligible to write the SSC examination you must have a minimum of C in English and Mathematics in your promotional examination, particularly in your pre-mock. You will be given assignments regularly, it is a serious offence when assignment are not done or submitted on time.

The SSC examination will test the extent to which you have covered the material contained in the curriculum approved by the National Council of Education. The SSCE Examination is made up of two components, the continuous assessment of your first 2years (SS) and the first term of your third year will be submitted. The external examination is conducted at the third term of your year 3. Your two years and a terms work of continuous assessment is 30% while the final examination that will be administered by WAEC will be 70%.

Choice of subjects
For the award of SSC, you are to write a minimum of eight subjects and maximum of nine subjects. You must offer the following core subjects

  1. English language
  2. Hausa or Yoruba or Igbo
  3. Mathematics
  4. Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (one or all)
  5. English Literature, History and Geography (one or all)
  6. Agriculture Science or any vocational subject

Note: In Addition to the above, you must offer three electives subjects not already offered as a core subject and may drop off the electives in the third term of your year two. The subjects are;
Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Further-Mathematics, Mathematics, Commerce, Economics, History, English, Literature in English, Geography, Agricultural-Science, Christian Religious Knowledge, Islamic Religious Knowledge, Technical-Drawing, Music, Art, French, Physical Education, Government, Food and Nutrition,
One of the Nigeria languages; Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa.
PSHE and Career guidance.

Every choice you make during your education will affect your future career in some way. Don't worry, at this time no one expects you to know defiantly what you want to do for the rest of your life. But now is the time to give a little thought to the subject choice in order to have a better chance to follow a career that is right for you.

Ask yourself again:
Why do I want to take this subject? Are these good reasons?
Does the subject fit in with any ideas about my future?

It is very important to talk about your choices during your career work in PSHE class and also at home. Your subject teachers will be providing you with further information during the lesson time or during the orientation of your class group.

You are to read and continue to develop yourself, support is available for your learning area.
